The Eye Sculptures

Eye Star Ship

I was born hearing impaired on the opposite end of the world, in Armenia. I remember watching my parents’ mouths move, as I observed how the lips moved pronouncing every single letter. I have learned to lip-read. My powerful eyes have enabled me to observe and understand the world where my ears have failed me. However, the silence surrounding me still made me isolated and lonely. I began to withdraw, and escape deeper into my inner world. As I was exploring my young universe, I made drawings and sketches of things I saw, slowly becoming an artist and a story teller. I never heard the voices of my classmates or family.

Kavot Forever
Eleven years later, my family and I moved to Japan. I got my first hearing aids, so I could hear sounds and voices. I could hear my peers, but I could not speak nor understand their language. I was lonely and isolated again, so I sunk deeper into my own world. I kept on drawing the things I saw in my own realm. I challenged myself to conjure up artwork never seen before, something very personal to me and very universal at t
he same time. I came to believe that art is about creating something so original, so personal, and unique, that only I can make it. It will be so out of this world that everyone would know I did it.

My family and I moved to the USA, when I was fifteen. I had my first best friend, and the best thing was that I could hear his voice and understand him. I still pursued my final artistic quest. Fourteen years later, I have produced artwork that is very personal to me. I have arrived in the world filled with eyes, as I realize how much eyes mean to me. The challenge was complete.

I still feel very lonely and isolated, as I have when I was seven. So in some ways I’m still seven in this frightening world, where nothing is promised, I can’t cou
nt on anything, and nothing is certain. However the Eyes help me see beyond the darkness. The Eyes seek out bits of hope, confidence, love, inspiration, knowledge, power, imagination, creativity, endurance, adaptability, and vision. The Eyes also represent a window to other worlds, patience, persistence, and understanding. The Eyes bring it back to me, so I don’t collapse into despair.
Eye of Cosmos

Twenty nine years later, in the year 2010, the Eyes have become very powerful and big in my universe. The Eyes have broken the barrier between darkness and light in the form of sculptures and paintings. I want to share the Eyes with Earth. Let the Eyes spread the qualities I have mentioned across the globe, making this world a better place. I have opened a portal to my inner world. When the time is right, I will float right through it. But the Eyes will remain on Earth forever, and the portal will remain open for all eternity.

My sculptures are made of high fired clay and some are made of air dry clay.  Some sculptures are hollow and some are filled with plaster or foam for additional strength. The sculptures are about foot and a half in height, width, and depth. The sculptures weight around 47 pounds. I paint my sculptures with Acrylics and then spray it with waterproof coating. The sculptures become snow, heat, and stain proof, and can be used outdoors. Of course for better preservation, it is better to display sculptures indoors.

I strongly believe that my eye sculptures are of extraterrestrial origins. They did not come from within, they are not based on Earthly inspirations, but rather of the worlds beyond our solar system.
